HCA Pre-Fit Barrel Labor

Combine this service with any HCA barrel blank to simplify your custom rifle build and receive a barrel chambered, threaded, and finished specifically for your action.

HCA has been chambering precision rifle barrels since 2012, with every step of the pre-fit process focused on consistency, proper fitment, and precise headspacing. Our chamber reamers are designed with carefully developed freebore and cartridge geometry to support the performance standards expected from a premium custom barrel.

During the chambering process, each barrel is individually dialed in to within .0001″ of runout at the throat using a long-stem indicator on our dedicated chambering CNC lathe. Once aligned, the barrel is threaded and reamed to achieve proper headspace for the specified action.

The result is a barrel prepared specifically for your rifle, eliminating a great deal of the additional gunsmithing normally required when starting with a traditional barrel blank.

Tikka T3 / T3X Pre-Fit Information

For Tikka T3 and T3X pre-fit barrels, we request that you either provide an accurate headspace measurement or send your action directly to HCA.

After chambering hundreds of Tikka barrels, we have observed as much as .006″ of headspace variation between individual actions. Because of this variation, an action-specific measurement helps us produce the proper fit for your rifle.

Measuring Tikka Headspace

This measurement must be taken using a calibrated and verified depth micrometer. Calipers are not sufficiently repeatable for this measurement.

With the barrel removed from the action, and the trigger system removed, measure from the face of the receiver to the bolt face. This is the headspace measurement required by HCA and should not be confused with tenon length.

We will chamber the barrel to this measurement minus .002″ to establish proper headspace with virgin brass while allowing for any dimensional change that may occur when the action is torqued onto the barrel.

For the most consistent measurement, secure the receiver vertically in a bench vise using soft jaws and repeat the measurement at least five times to verify consistency.

If you are not comfortable taking this measurement yourself, you may send your receiver to HCA. Only the receiver and bolt are required; the trigger and bolt stop may be removed and are not necessary for chambering.
